Barro Vidriado ó Engretado

About …

The Barro Engretado makes clay a little more useful. It is not only an artistic, artisanal technique but it is the technique used in many of the traditional tableware of Mexican gastronomy. The clay is made in a very traditional way on a firewood oven, when it is finished it is exposed to high temperatures and covered with a material that makes it more resistant and functional. All of the other clay techniques are just for decoration. The Valdivia Family has been working this technique for more than 40 years.
